I'm not slow, so I don't want my characters to be slow! Gamers are only as good as the developers. This in my opinion is the deal breaker or maker for a game.

When you hit Right Trigger the gun shoots on the first attempt. The characters actually transition real nicely. It's not robotic, choppy, bogged-down, etc. The strong point of the game is its ease of controls. Total actual gameplay for Alan Wake is anywhere from 12-16 hours which is actually rather good for a Non-RPG/Shooter game. Don't be surprised if your friends actually get sucked in just by watching the game.

The game has six episodes and it's laid out like a TV series with you the main character of Alan Wake, narrating the game almost like Kevin from the "Wonder Years." However, the game rolls like a movie. Which switches up the typical inner-cities, warehouses, or space locations that most horror/suspense/thriller games place us in. It's one of the first games that takes place 90% in the mountains. It has the graphics to please the eye, music and sound effects to please the ears, and a storyline that tames those with A.D.D. It looks really cool in it's book format display.Īlan Wake is more than a jump out at you game. If you're a big Alan Wake fan, then definitely pick it up. If you like game mysterious, enjoy reading, and enjoy music, then it's probably worth purchasing. Now is this Collector's Edition worth the purchase? Honestly, if you haven't really followed the game's timeline for the last 6+ years, every step of the way, I would say, no, it's not worth it. I'm not going to go into the book, but I will say that it's a rather good book and will probably make you Google the name Clay Steward.if you haven't already done that.įor those who just Googled Clay Steward, welcome back.

In the Collector's Edition you will receive the game, the soundtrack (which is actually good and fits the game nicely), a bonus disc, and a 130 page hardback book titled, "The Alan Wake Files", which was compiled by Clay Steward from Madison, Wisconsin. Since I'm reviewing the "Limited Collector's Edition" I'll briefly talk about what comes in the box set and if it's worth the high price. Well, it finally arrived, and it's a spellbinding game.

Nobody really knew if it would ever see the LIGHT of day. There was delay after delay after delay with this game. To those who haven't owned an Xbox 360 that long, or those who may not consider themselves a "gamer" only need to know one thing about this was originally slated to release with the Xbox 360 launch yeah, way back in November, 2005. The long wait has finally come to a close! It was 6+ years of waiting, push-backs, rumors of production abandonment, anticipation, frustration, and now.gameplay!Īlan Wake was developed by Remedy, whom are not clueless to making a action-packed game (see Max Payne). The package also contains a 144-page book featuring additional backstory material, presented as a compilation of FBI dossiers, along with a short story credited to the protagonist.

The Limited Collector's Edition of Alan Wake ships in special packaging with an audio disc containing the game's score and soundtrack, a disc containing an Alan Wake theme and avatar for use with Xbox Live, a token for a free download of the first Alan Wake add-on content package. And instead of a handgun, Alan Wake's trustiest weapon may be his flashlight, as darkness seems to be the source of all his nightmarish troubles. The mission structure in Alan Wake is less linear, however, with the town of Bright Falls serving as a hub for numerous plot-related undertakings. As in the studio's Max Payne, the hero's nightmares yield grotesque monsters to battle and surreal mysteries to unravel, mostly from an action-oriented, third-person perspective. Mission by mission, the player guides the character to explore these eerie stories as they come alive in the isolated coastal village.Īlan Wake shares more with its predecessors than a vague pun in the title character's name. He retreats to the little Pacific Northwest town of Bright Falls, where the horrors he once saw in his sleep seem to become real. Mourning a vanished lover and beset by insomnia, Alan Wake has lost his best source of creative inspiration: his dreams. Finland's Remedy Entertainment delivers this "psychological thriller" action-adventure, which follows a popular horror novelist through his darkest nightmares.
